Stardust and Sherlock Holmes

I know the two titles are very much unrelated, but these are stories that are in my mind lately.

I have recently read the book Stardust by Neil Gaiman. I had seen the movie first before the book so I already knew the story. I still enjoyed the book, but this is probably the first time I would say that I liked the movie more than I liked the book. In the book, there is no humor, everything is fantasy and serious. Also, Tristran (Tristan in the movie) had “powers” in the book, which comes from being the descendant of the royal family. He’s a pathfinder…he knows where things in Faerie are when you ask him, even if he hasn’t even heard of the places yet. Also, their time at Captain Shakespeare’s ship wasn’t detailed (oh and the captain isn’t gay in the books. He’s not a terror either). But what really disappointed me was the fact that no fight scene occurred at the end. Septimus (the last surviving son of the King) was killed because he opted to revenge his brother by burning the witch’s hat, but the witch summoned/turned into a poisonous snake and bit him. Tristran also didn’t leave the star Yvaine without any warning, as he still had feelings for Victoria. Victoria had feelings for Mr. Monday…she never liked Tristran and was set to marry Mr. Monday. Tristran also wasn’t allowed to cross the wall coming from Fairie at first. He returned to Wall only to realize that he loves Yvaine, and said goodbye to Victoria and his family. When he came back, he fell asleep and Lady Una talked to Yvaine. When she left, the witch came for Yvaine and told her that she was going to cut her heart out (the witch seemed nice!), but Yvaine said that it wouldn’t be possible anymore because she had already “given her heart” to Tristran. Oh and they got married but didn’t rule yet; they traveled throughout Faerie for years before they decided to rule.

On Sunday, after Mark’s basketball game, we watched Sherlock Holmes (last full show) at 10:45 at ATC. We also bumped into Tel who was going to watch the same movie at the same time. I enjoyed the movie! I love the whole bohemian effect to it, and the fact that it was all about logic and mysteries. It’s an old movie with effects of the 21st century, yet the charm remains and wasn’t butchered. I love how every major character played their role. It’s a bit similar to The Prestige…wherein magic relies on scientific inventions, and the secret(s) is/are revealed at the end. The only thing I didn’t like about this movie is Watson’s fiance. I couldn’t seem to like her, and had always been hoping for her to be the bad guy.

Mark Playing Guitar

Mark Playing Guitar

I can’t describe how I’m feeling right now. The day isn’t over yet, but there are butterflies in my stomach, and tears forming at the back of my eyes.

It’s the 13th of February, a friday. I don’t really believe in bad luck…in fact the opposite happened today. I’ve been the drama queen for the past week, since I’ve been having a bad year, I was expecting this day to be the same…as any day – fun, happy, yet…ordinary and casual. I didn’t think I could bear the year anymore so I was freaking out.

I was awake since 4 in the afternoon even though I didn’t have to go to work until 9. I wanted to play WoW haha. He said he was going home early so we can play together. I waited for him to get home while I played WoW in my pambahay clothes. At around 7, I heard the bell rang. I thought it was my neighber wanting to switch parking spaces with me, but no. It was him! He was cradling the loveliest boquet of roses. They get better each year, I swear. But what was even better was that…he brought along his guitar and serenaded me. He sang the song “Nakaturo Sa’yo” by Razorback. He took my breath away and I was almost in tears! I guess that’s how it feels to be serenaded by someone you love.

Best or Worst of Both Worlds?

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

My sister took the car with her, and, since the car was on coding, I had to wait for 8 o’clock so she can pick me up. I decided to go to Shangri-La. I stopped by the dermatologist to buy medicine for my scalp and went to PowerBooks to look for stuff to read. I found their last copy of Twilight, to my delight, and bought it in a rush. Seriously, there was a guy holding it before I got my hands of it; I stared at him for a good minute before he let go and I grabbed it and brought to the counter. It was just 5 in the afternoon and I wasn’t feeling well, so I decided to order coffee and sit at Starbucks to kill time.

It was amazing – I read through 200 pages and didn’t realize it was already 7:30 if my sister hadn’t replied to my text message. And then it dawned on me: am I getting the best, or the worst, of both worlds? And by worlds I mean ‘gender’.

Twilight is, an Anne Rice novel for chicks – teen chicks. Seriously. It feels girlier than Christopher Pike’s books! But nevertheless, I can’t get my hands off it. I love stuff that normal girls love –butterflies, the color blue, books, romance, hugs and kisses, roses, surprises…but I’m not that girly enough to love pink, baduy love stories, well actually 90% of love stories haha…and a lot more girl stuff…

I also love stuff that normal boys love — the color blue, chucks/vans, games (ie GW, WoW), PC stuff, programming, driving, drinking…but I’m not very much hard core into everything.

I’m really stuck. What the hell am I? A cross breed? I stuck between both worlds, and I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing :(

I can’t relate to most girls when they talk about I don’t even know what. I can’t relate to most boys when they talk about hard core gaming and PC stuff (altho hard core programming…YEY!). Where do I even belong? :/

How was my day?

I had a pretty nice day actually. I woke up at 6 in the morning, took a shower, got dressed, and went to work. I got lucky on parking space, there was one free slot available so I quickly parked the car. I dropped by the infamous coffee shop that I now miss, Starbucks. I miss the surroundings of our old office; being there makes me feel young as its corridors are crowded by students of UA&P.

I got lucky again that the night shift people haven’t gone home yet, so I got in. I was afraid I wouldn’t get in because I don’t have a key to the office. I got a couple of interesting tasks at work. I left an hour later than my shift ends, and went shopping for a bit. I dropped by the “kawaii” “notebook shop” that Gracia told me about, but I couldn’t find anything that I like. Actually, I found one, but I couldn’t stand the English plus I felt it was useless to me and expensive for what it’s worth. Since I was waiting for 7pm, the time the coding on my car ends, I had a lot of time to myself. I tried to withdraw the money I was going to use to pay my bills, but when it was my turn, the ATM went berserk and kept me waiting for a good 10 minutes before finally telling me that it didn’t have any hundred-dollar bills. I tried thrice to make a transaction; to no avail. I switched over the the other ATM and good thing that was working. Since I was itching to buy a notebook/draft book, I decided to pay bookstores a visit, and went insde Powerbooks. Boy, do they have a lot of nice stuff, too bad they’re pretty expensive. I got a pretty decent notebook that costs P200, and a copy of this month’s Reader’s Digest. On my way to the bank, I stopped by the pet shop. I’ve been meaning to buy a cat one of these days, and I found a “cute”, very fluffy persian cat (misspelled by the shop as “Pearsian Cat”). Unfortunately it’s already 5 months old and priced at P15,000. I’m not rich, so I proceeded to deposit my money to to bank and pay my bills instead…

I walked my way back to the car, which was a good 20 minutes’ exercise away. I was so dehydrated and exhausted so I stopped by a nearby 7-11 to grab something to eat and drink, and finally, went home…
