All except one of these pictures are taken using my dad’s 70-210mm f/4:5-5.6 lens. It’s the lens that’s in the last picture, “Paintbrush Of Light”. A painter’s medium is paint; his tool is a paint brush. A photographer’s medium is light; his tool is a camera, and its lenses.

So, Mark suggested that I post random pictures here and transform this into a photoblog. Pretty neat idea. So here are some shots I took recently.

Cool proposal (Geek alert)

Wow, what a cool way to propose. This makes me wish I was a guy (and Mark was a girl). Then I’d have an excuse to hack a game and propose. I sooo wanna do this. This pwns the 3d animation proposal “Love Letters” bigtime.

Mark Playing Guitar

Mark Playing Guitar

I can’t describe how I’m feeling right now. The day isn’t over yet, but there are butterflies in my stomach, and tears forming at the back of my eyes.

It’s the 13th of February, a friday. I don’t really believe in bad luck…in fact the opposite happened today. I’ve been the drama queen for the past week, since I’ve been having a bad year, I was expecting this day to be the same…as any day – fun, happy, yet…ordinary and casual. I didn’t think I could bear the year anymore so I was freaking out.

I was awake since 4 in the afternoon even though I didn’t have to go to work until 9. I wanted to play WoW haha. He said he was going home early so we can play together. I waited for him to get home while I played WoW in my pambahay clothes. At around 7, I heard the bell rang. I thought it was my neighber wanting to switch parking spaces with me, but no. It was him! He was cradling the loveliest boquet of roses. They get better each year, I swear. But what was even better was that…he brought along his guitar and serenaded me. He sang the song “Nakaturo Sa’yo” by Razorback. He took my breath away and I was almost in tears! I guess that’s how it feels to be serenaded by someone you love.

My cat is suicidal

Baozi with patchi stickers on him

Baozi with patchi stickers on him

My mom, who isn’t an animal lover, seems to be falling in love with my cats. She liked Siopao and I think likes Baozi too. Baozi loved my dad and always followed him around. Dad left last Tuesday so he followed my mom instead.

Mommy was hanging some clothes to dry on our terrace, and Baozi jumped! From the terrace and onto the top of our Revo. My mom was horrified, she walked back in and saw that Baozi has no food anymore. She jokingly thought that Baozi tried to commit suicide because he was hungry. So she took his kitty food and told my brother to fill the kitty bowl. Funny thing is, when my brother was about to pour the contents on to the bowl, he noticed something different about the bag he was holding. It had a hamster picture on it. Turns out it was the pieces of wood that you place on a hamster’s cage, haha.

Anyway, Baozi attempted suicide again today! See, my sister and I had a misunderstanding about the car that when I went home, she was already gone. I called her up if she was still going to use the car, and she said she was, so I left home in a rush and picked her up at Boni Circle since her jeep was already there. She dropped me off back at home, and I could see Baozi walking on the window still. I heard him jump, and then cry loudly, I panicked and almost had trouble getting in. See, earlier that day, my sister attached Baozi’s leash to his collar. Turns out she forgot to remove it, so when I saw Baozi, he was hanging and swinging from below the window. The thing that kept him hanging was his collar, that was attached to his leash, which was stuck on the railings of the window! If I hadn’t come in time, he would have died of suffocation :( Poor baby! I love you Baozi…*hug*

WoW: WOTLK Collector’s Edition

I got my World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Collector’s Edition yesterday. Actually it’s still with my friend Richard (who lives in Canada) but he sent me the key already, and I’ll just wait for him to go here to the Phils so I can claim it haha. I spent weeks hunting for it! Thanks for all your kindness richard! Unfortunately, the only in-game benefit of having it is a mini-pet, a baby frost wyrm named Frosty! It’s so blue and cute :)

Tunnel WoW using PuTTY and Socks Server

Uncontrollable lag? Sucky ISP? Blocked by firewalls? A solution to these annoyances…TUNNEL!

Okay, so my boyfriend Mark has been having ridiculous pings on his WoW client. We decided to try tunneling it through my PC (which would serve as the socks server) and check if he gets less latency/lag.

All we needed was the following:

  1. My server: A PC that runs ubuntu
    • Socks Server 5 (will discuss later how to install this)
    • A Tunnel Manager (gSTM)
  2. The Client: Mark’s PC
    • WoW client installed (of course!)
    • SockscapV2
    • PuTTY

I used this guide to install Socks Server 5 (SS5) on my Ubuntu machine. gSTM can be installed using Synaptic or Add/Remove Applications. I then had to make sure that my socks port can be accessed from the internet, so I set up the Port Forwarding on my router to direct all 1080 and 1890 ports (1080 is the default port for socks server, but the guide uses 1890 to prevent malicious people for taking advantage of your open port) to my internal IP.

On Mark’s side (client side), he installed SockscapV2to act as a wrapper for Wow’s proxy/socks server, and PuTTY to tunnel the socks requests to my computer via SSH.

We got it working, but unfortunately didn’t fix Mark’s lag that much. It reduced it for a while, but it got higher after an hour. Oh yeah, to check that your tunnel is working, you might want to do a netstat and search for the IP you’re connecting to (or the ports you’re connecting to) — ie in this case 123.123.123.123.
